7pm - $20 per person.
|
For the last Suds Club beer tasting of 2009 we are going high octane on this one. Strong beers with high alcohol content! There will be nine beers ranging from 8% ABV to 28% ABV! This one's not for the faint hearted, and we strongly recommend you eat a meal before coming to this tasting...it's going to knock you off your bar stool! We all want to taste it but frankly the chances of Santa bringing us a bottle of Utopias is slim, so we added it the last Suds Club beer tasting of 2009! This tasting will be $20 per person.

1. Point Whole Hog Imperial Pilsner - 8.5%
2. North Coast Old Stock Ale - 12.5%
3. Stone Double Bastard Ale - 10.5%
4. Samichlause Classic - 14.0% (brewed only 1 day a year)

About Sam Adams Utopias:
Truly the epitome of brewing’s two thousand year evolution, Samuel Adams Utopias offers a flavor not just unlike any other beer but unlike any other beverage in the world. It’s warm, sweet flavor is richly highlighted with hints of vanilla, oak and caramel. With an alcohol content of 28% by volume, its complexity and sweet, malty flavor is reminiscent of a deep, rich vintage Port, fine Cognac or aged sherry while being surprisingly light on the palate. And like the world’s finest after-dinner drinks, Samuel Adams Utopias is not carbonated and should be served at room temperature.
In one of many examples where Samuel Adams Utopias pushed the boundaries of beer into the realm of other fine beverages, it received the highest recommendation (96-100 points) from the prestigious Wine Enthusiast Magazine (November, 2003 edition).
Due to legal restrictions, Samuel Adams Utopias is not offered in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, or West Virginia.
About Samichlause Classic:
Samichlaus is one of the strongest lager beers in the world, at 14% ABV, and the best known of all European Christmas beers. The name means Santa Claus in Swiss German. The beer is only brewed once a year, on December 6th the day of Saint Nicholas, at Eggenberg Castle in Austria which makes it a relatively rare brew. It is in the style of a Bavarian Doppelbock, and undergoes unusually long fermentation by traditional cold lagering over a ten month period, leaving very little residual sugar in the final beer.
About Suds Club:
For those not familiar with the Suds Club, it's a beer tasting club that meets every Wednesday 7pm at the Bomb Shelter. With over 400 registered members it is Milwaukee's only weekly beer tasting club where we sample a minimum of 8 beers every week. Membership is open to the public, all you have to do show up and sign up for a one time membership fee of $7. Tastings consist of a history of the beer and brewery; we bring in brew masters, brewery owners, distributors, importers, and sales reps to tell you about their beers. Any given night the crowd is stocked with brewers from here in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Beer Barons, home brewers and beer geeks...so if you've got a question we've most likely have someone on hand with the answer.
